This is a good book about a young boy pulled into a life of violence and tragedy.
I wish he explained a little more his journey that ultimately brought him to the US, but what he does cover well effectively demonstrates the evils of warfare.
It’s easy to forget the reality of lives disrupted and innocence lost when all we know of the conflicts are the evening news reports.
This book shows that there is great power when loving, patient individuals are dedicated to helping others. It is largely through people like this that Ishmael and so many others were able to rehabilitate, learn to forgive, and once again feel and give love.
